Fasting Fuel is a diet supplement that isn’t just formulated to help you lose weight, but also to help provide additional health benefits.
It is marketed primarily as an appetite suppressant, and from the look of its ingredients, this product may also be used as a fat burning agent.
Like many diet supplements that I reviewed here, there are several pros and cons for this product that you should know before you decide to purchase one.
Interested? If yes, then I suggest that you read this detailed product review and see for yourself if Fasting Fuel is worth considering as your next diet supplement.
What is Fasting Fuel?
Fasting Fuel is a product of Akimbo, which at the time of writing this review, their website isn’t accessible. So I can’t say much about this company though I know that they exclusively sell this supplement in Amazon.
As mentioned above, Fasting Fuel is primarily an appetite suppressant formula, hence the word “fasting” was used for its name in the first place.
Here are the health claims:
- Increased fat burning
- Controls appetite
- Stabilizes blood sugar
- Replenishes electrolytes
So this product may offer you great weight loss benefits especially if you have a workout program at home because this formula may help prevent you from getting dehydrated.
And unlike other dietary supplements in the market, Fasting Fuel is an affordable brand so it won’t break your wallet. I am just skeptical if Akimbo offers any refund guarantee or returns. So I suggest you talk to them about this before you purchase one.

Fasting Fuel Ingredients
The proprietary blend of this supplement contains known weight loss agents that are commonly used by most brands in the market. The only difference is the potency as Fasting Fuel only offers a total of 811mg per serving, much lower compared to its competitors.
Ingredients include alpha lipoic acid, L-Carnitine, green tea leaf extract, banaba leaf extract, moringa powder, berberine bark extract and cayenne powder.
Other ingredients include calcium citrate, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride and sodium chloride.
How does Fasting Fuel Work?
According to its Amazon sales page, Fasting Fuel is an ideal supplement for those who are on a diet and training program. It helps maximize fat loss results, provide energy all day, optimizes focus and productivity, and of course, complete craving and hunger control.
But how can this supplement provide these effects? To answer that, we need to dive into these ingredients and see if they can truly help you lose weight fast.
Alpha Lipoic Acid
Simply called as ALA, alpha lipoic acid has been suggested as a powerful weight loss supplement due to its ability to reduce the level of enzyme AMP-activated protein kinase or AMPK in an animal-based study (1).
AMPK is quite important for weight loss. The more active your AMPK is, the more you feel hunger and the urge to consume food. So suppressing this enzyme is a must if you want to have better control of your appetite.
A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study of 360 obese subjects (2), revealed that alpha lipoic acid supplementation resulted to modest weight loss.
However, the subjects took 1,800mg per day and they only get minimal weight reduction. Fasting Fuel on the other hand, only contain 100mg per day. So it is obvious to say that this amount fall short compared to the clinical lab test amount used in the study and is unlikely to give any measures of weight loss.
While this might disappoint you with regards to weight loss, ALA is a proven supplement for preventing diabetes as it helps lower blood sugar and reduces insulin resistance by promoting processes that can eliminate fat in the muscle cells (3).
Green Tea Extract
There is no doubt that green tea is one of the most popular beverage in the world because of its alleged health benefits especially for weight loss (4).
So what makes green tea so special for weight loss? It is because of its two main chemicals – caffeine and catechins.
Caffeine is a stimulant which affects your central nervous system, enhancing your focus, brain function, alertness and energy levels. This also promote weight loss as caffeine can increase your metabolic levels, and leads to more body fat loss (5).
But what about catechins? These are antioxidants that helps strengthen your immunity against chronic diseases such as cancers, heart disease and diabetes. But what you didn’t know is that, catechins are also proven as a fat burner (6).
Banaba Leaf Extract
If you live here in Manila, banaba is a common tree found just about anywhere. This is because banaba is only found in tropical countries such as the Philippines.
Akimbo probably added banaba leaf extract to Fasting Fuel because of its sugar reducing properties. As you know, that is one of the health claims of this product.
According to experts (7), banaba helps reduce blood sugar levels by increasing insulin sensitivity, enhancing glucose uptake and inhibiting alpha-glucosidase, an enzyme the digest carbs. This is due banaba contains corosolic acid, ellagitannins and gallotannins.
But can banaba help with weight loss?
According to this report (8), mice fed banaba extract led to a significant decrease in hepatic lipid content, which suggests that this extract does have beneficial effects on obese mice. However, there are no solid evidence that human test will show similar results.
L-Carnitine
This amino acid is known for its role in mitochondrial function and energy production. That’s why you often see L-Carnitine as a main ingredient in energy supplements and commercial beverages.
Almost all carnitine are stored in your muscles, liver and blood, but its primary function is to transport fatty acids into the mitochondria to produce energy for your body (9).
People use carnitine for lowering blood sugar levels, improving brain function, heart health, exercise performance improvement and many others.
How about weight loss? Well, lab tests shows mixed results when it comes to carnitine’s weight loss effects (10). So this means that carnitine may aid weight loss in some ways but don’t expect that it can give you noticeable results.
Moringa Leaf
Like banaba, moringa is found in tropical countries like India and the Philippines. People use it for treating diabetes, skin diseases, infections and many others.
This herb is packed with protein, fiber, calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, copper, vitamin A and many other nutrients and vitamins.
So the question is, can this herb help trigger weight loss?
First off, there is no lab test that used moringa for weight loss in humans. So there is no definitive answer whether this herb can provide any measures of weight loss.
But there is a weight loss study of obese subjects taking a combination of moringa, turmeric and curry, which resulted in an impressive weight loss of 10.6 pounds (11). Still, this doesn’t mean that moringa can be used as a weight loss supplement.
Berberine
Sourced from berberis plant, berberine is a bioactive compound that is proven to help improve different areas of human health.
First is it ability to reduce blood sugar levels by reducing insulin resistance, increasing glycolysis and sugar production, slows down carb breakdown and increases the number of good bacteria in the gut.
So effective in controlling blood sugar levels, it is even compared to a diabetes drug called Metformin (12).
For weight loss, berberine is also proven to help aid weight loss by inhibiting the growth of fat cells, and by improving many health markers such as insulin sensitivity and adjusting adipkines profile (14).
Cayenne Pepper
Want a burn more fat? Take red hot chili peppers to burn that excess fat! Well, I am just over emphasizing the possible effects of cayenne (also known as capsicum) on your body.
Why? Because cayenne (chili peppers) are known to provide fat burning effects due to its alleged thermogenic properties. When you say thermogenesis, it is the body’s capacity to increase its temperature that will lead to increased metabolism that initiates fat burning.
But what are the basis for this claim? Can it really trigger fat loss?
According to this study (15), cayenne can indeed help provide support for weight loss by increasing your metabolism, burning some calories and may even help cut your calorie intake throughout the day (13).
Are Side Effects Possible?
Fasting Fuel doesn’t have any complaints online especially with regards to side effects. This is not surprising at all as this supplement doesn’t have harmful or toxic substances that can cause adverse effects.
There are some minor reports of hunger pains but that is common in most dietary supplements in the market. I believe this product is perfectly safe for you.
You can read the complete list of Amazon customer reviews for this brand here.
To have a safer supplementation, I suggest that you consult your doctor first before you take this supplement or any other supplements that are found online.
Conclusion
So can Fasting Fuel help you lose weight? I believe so!
Based on the ingredients above, only carnitine and alpha lipoic acid are the questionable ingredients when it comes to weight loss though these are also both proven to have potential weight loss effects.
Other ingredients are all proven to help reduce blood sugar levels, appetite and can help burn fat. Fasting Fuel is going to work much better if you combine with healthy diet and regular exercise.
